So often with WordPress, we’re used to looking for a plugin or a hack in order to solve our issues.
If you’d like to change the default category that posts get placed into, however, then you’re in luck. No plugin or hack required.
In your admin area, simply navigate to Settings > Writing > and then look for the pull down menu beside “Default Post Categoy.”
By the way, you can also easily change your default post format here as well (e.g. change from a standard post type to an image post type or a video post type, etc.)
And that’s it – easy and built-in, just the way it should be.
